Contemporary Design: Annakiki

Growing up in a household of tailors, Chinese designer Anna Yang has always been inspired by fashion design + garment construction. With her first major design showcase on the runway of Milan Fashion Week, Anna hoped to bring more color, intensity, and irreverence to the somewhat dark, neutral-hued Italian fashion capital.

From scallop shaped sleeves on tailored suits to hoodies with faux fur sleeves, Anna's love for juxtaposing unpredictable fabrics on garments is quite evident. "Those elements are recurrent throughout my collections. I always incorporate unconventional elements and materials within my items. I used plastic, fur, patent leather. I played with different fonts, fabrics and colors." Anna's designs consist of rich + punchy hues, voluminous silhouettes, and possess a retro futuristic appeal. Anna believes it is also imperative to ethically source the materials she uses in her designs - noting that all of the fuzzy and fluffy garments in her AW18 collection were made from faux fur.
